Origin: Jordan
The delicious and largely popular Jordanian national dish Mansaf which consists of cooked pieces of lamb spread over a bed of rice and thin bread and sprinkled with nuts is heavily reliant on an essential ingredient: jameed. Jameed is made out of jameed stones. These stones are churned for hours and mixed with vegetable oil until they becomes a soft and smooth yogurt sauce of a rich and distinct flavor. Due to the long hours of preparation of Jameed many families shy away from making Mansaf.
